Dan Hassinger is a native of Decatur, Illinois. After serving honorably in the United States Air Force, Dan enjoyed a 15-year career as a police officer. He began his career with the Decatur Police Department. Dan served as a patrol officer, street crimes investigator (narcotics, robbery, prostitution) and finally as a detective in the adult investigations bureau. Dan received numerous commendations during his employment with the Decatur Police Department. 

Dan's first assignment with the Illinois Secretary of State Police was as an Investigator assigned to Kane, Cook, and Lake Counties. After transferring to Springfield, he was promoted to Investigator Sergeant. As an Investigator Sergeant, Dan supervised investigations and operations in 34 counties in Central Illinois. Dan received recognition for his efforts in DUI enforcement, and served as the District 3 Coordinator for the "Anti-Drunk Driving Enforcement Program."

Tragedy struck in 2004, when a gunman shot and killed an Illinois Secretary of State Security Officer working at the Capitol Building. Dan was awarded the Illinois Secretary of State Police Employee of the Year Award for his efforts in investigating and solving this horrific crime. Upon concluding this investigation, Dan began pursuing his undergraduate degree from Millikin University. He continued post-graduate studies in law and is a graduate from the University of Illinois College of Law.
